National Day of Civic Hacking -- NOT IN DC

So I have been biting/holding my tongue about the upcoming National Day of Civic Hacking (Hack for Change.org) which is this Saturday May 31th - Sunday June 1st. and really can't for the good of good hackathons.  Namely because of articles I'm reading on NPR that are incorrectly stating that a hackathon is happening in DC. Since clearly nothing is happening -just click on the image above and see for yourself.
"Washington, D.C. is doing a transparency camp where hundreds of people will gather to share knowledge about how to use new technologies and policies to make the government work more effectively for the people."
Some might be asking why I'm so beefed up about all of this and I believe I have a good answer. For the second year in a row, the hackathon that started many of these RHoKDC is not happening-- last years was canceled and this year I was asked not to do one by the organizers of this event.

The crux of Hacking for good came about by the peopling stepping up to fix problems that the Gov (local and national ) couldn't or wouldn't and now this same government has taken over the Hacking for Good movement and we have billion dollar agencies sucking the life of the Hacking for Good movement.

Please, federal, state and local governments working on and supporting a Hackathon is fine;  trying to run them and for only the benefit of yourself when a day of National Civic Hacking needs to be for everyone; Since it's just  how these things work.

For the sake of everyone next year in June when many of us are used to Random Hacks of Kindness, we can actually have them happen in DC.
